Muslims Contribution in Science and Technology

This article is about Muslim’s contribution in science and technology with critical analysis on present and future directions. The author has divided the analysis into 3 main parts which are lead by the period which Muslim Civilization was leading the world, the Golden Era, then proceed with the discussion about the present scenario of the human civilization and comparison of the western and Muslim civilization are attempted. The third part is to give some projections of future direction in human civilization and provide some suggestions should Muslims would want to retake the leading role in civilization. In the Golden Era, the author talked about Muslims scholars’ achievement in science and technology field such as in chemistry, physics and biology. Muslims scholars were the first to introduce and adopt experimental work into scientific studies whereas Aristotle and other Greek scientist at that time apply Greek method of acquiring scientific knowledge which are generalized, hypothesized and theorized.
Muslims scholars have achieved to a great level of advancement in experimental works and its apparatus. When the Golden Era decline and replace with western civilization, western civilization still acquires knowledge which is developed during Golden Era in order to continue in expanding the knowledge. However, there is a big different between Muslims civilization and western civilization where western civilization is developed outside the religious frame, while Islam make the Qur’an and ahadith were the main sources of inspiration and moving factor for the Muslims civilization. The critical analysis brought by the author in this article is whether Muslims civilization able to replace current western civilization by considering current worldwide issues? The author has accumulated the factors seemed to contribute to the flourish of the early Muslim civilization which are there must be tolerance in the Muslim community, political stability, support from the ruler, discipline and devotion and other small factors. In this article, the author seems not too much stressed on critically analyzed what Muslims should do to gain back Muslim civilization.
If I were to rewrite this article, I will stress more on the strategies to replace current western civilization with critical discussion. People already know about our Golden Era and Muslims scholars’ achievement and contribution in expanding the knowledge. Now we need critical analysis on how to gain back the civilization to us.
